Junior European Championships Belgrade

This weekeend has been very successful for Great Britains Juniors and is the best results overall Great Britain have ever had.
In the K1 1000m Tom started off things well by winning his semi final and booking his place in final A. In the final Tom tightened up and was dissapointed by his standards but with another year left it is a very encouraging result 9th in Europe. In the K1 500m Kristian looked strong through all the prelimary rounds and was 2nd in his semi final. Going into the final with confidence he had a great race and became Junior European Bronze meddalist! An amazing result and the improvement this year has been huge. In the K4 events the boat of Kristian Reeves/Tom Hide/ Ben Parfitt/ Edward Rutherford, the boys had great semi finals to book their place in the A final for both the 1000m and 500m. They placed 7th in both the finals and this is the best result in a K4 for Great Britain in a long while.
Elsewhere in the Junior Girls Jess Walker became European Champion over 500m after a fantastic race. Alongside Amoret in the K2 1000m they claimed the silver medal. All in all great results for Great Britain.
Looking ahead to next

Bochum Regatta 2007, Germany

The boys have returned from Bochum after a great weekend of racing. The boys K4 medalled twice (silver) in the 1000 and 500m events. In the 1000m race, the Germans showed their power all the way through to take the line with the GB boys 3.5 secs down on the winners. The 500m race was a different. The Great Britain boat with Kristian Reeves, Tom Hide, Ben Parfitt and Ed Rutherford led to the 350m mark, when the power of the Deutschland Vier came through and won by 1/2 a boat length. A very encouraging performance as we look towards the Junior World Championships at the end of July in Racice, Czech Republic. In the K1 1000m Tom came 4th and felt there is more to give. Kristian in the K1 500m came 6th and didnt have one of his better races but knows he can do better.
